mulliks mulliks
Solo exhibition, Forum Box, Helsinki I dance for joy at the beginning of a new life in Aisha Khalid’s garden that is about to flourish, in the footsteps of Richard Long. I build a cradle out of our bed. I am watching power lines and the birds sitting on them with my child, I start composing a lullaby, inspired by Benjamin Patterson’s Ants. I roll the matchbox cars of my childhood down a track I built and I count every question I hear, as Stanley Brouwn counted steps.
468 questions per day
2024 Over the course of 65 days, my child asked 30 430 questions, so 468 questions per day, on average, 41 questions per hour and 0,7 questions per minute.
Distance Piece
2024 My matchbox cars form part of my first childhood memory. When I found the cars again, I rolled each one of them 36 times a day over the course of 27 working days. I used a data visualisation technique to create images that represent the distances travelled by each car.
Birds
2024 After my child was born, we did long walks. They often ended on park benches looking onto power lines. When I looked at the power lines from a certain angle, they formed the staffs of sheets of music and the birds sitting on them became notes. Tunes started playing in my mind!
Before (2019) | After (2020)
2024 I built a bed and built another one.
Footprints by dancing
2024 When somebody asked Imran Qureshi: How long does it take to paint one good miniature painting? – Whole life and one day. I danced that one day in Aisha Khalid’s garden.
